We all sin right? We all fall, mess up, get our feet a little dirty and in need for Jesus to wash us up a little bit. We all know that God saved us and we need to live righteously, and at least for most of the people I know that’s what we want to do! Out of Titus 2:11-12 “For the grace of God has appeared bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously, and godly in the present age.” We all know what we’re supposed to do but all the Bible seems to say is “try harder, it’ll work out.” So we do, and it works for a time but then it all falls apart again, and we’re left wondering “why?” We know it’s important. Coming from 2 Timothy 2:19-21 “Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.” Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.” We all want to be vessels for honor in Christ’s household. We don’t want to dishonor our amazing Savior. We know it destroys out testimony as accurately displayed in 1 Timothy 5:24-25 “The sins of some men are quite evident, going before them to judgment; for others, their sins follow after. Likewise also, deeds that are good are quite evident, and those which are otherwise cannot be concealed.” We want to glorify our Savior, Creator, and Lover Jesus. It’s God’s will for us, so why can’t we do it? As is found in 1 Thessalonians 4:7 “For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification.” It’s a tough commandment to tell us to stay pure, quite impossible actually. So how do we do this? Well I think the first answer will be a lot more predictable. The first answer is found in 1 I Thessalonians 5:23-24 “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.” God is already working in your life, however much it seems to simply be an encouraging thought, or so surreal looking at your life. It’s real! It’s happening! I think our problem usually comes up right about here. We start doing better but the minute we lose sight of this, or begin to feel like we are not being sanctified anymore, it’s over! We miss two important things, love, dependence and ownership. The first is found two chapters before in 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13 “and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all the people, just as we also do for you; so that He may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints.” You see one thing that keeps us holy and blameless before Jesus is love. When we love one another we don’t want to sin against them, and when we love our Savior who went to the cross we definitely don’t want to disappoint Him. The second is whom we’re looking to for our sanctification. Remember 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, It’s God who causes our sanctification, the minute we stop depending on Him to clean us up, we’re a goner! The third and last one is that “we don’t have the right to victimize ourselves,” as I think Jeremy said in one of his messages. As is said in Romans 6:22, “But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.” We are slaves of God, not of ourselves anymore. And notice sanctification is our reward, our benefit! Like I said before it’s what we want, but when the struggles come and I assure you, they will come, as is said in 2 Timothy 3:12, “Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus WILL be persecuted.” (Emphasis mine) We will be under attack, from ourselves and other “forces of wickedness,” but we’ll pull through because God is on our side, and He is most definitely faithful. So as far as sanctification remember to be dependant on God, it’s what we were made for, to need a Savior, to choose to be saved. Not to save ourselves by sanctifying ourselves. To fill whatever you’re getting rid of in your life with love. It’s what Jesus was all about and that’s what will keep you on track. And last but not least, your God owns you. You don’t have the right to sin, to “victimize” yourself. It’s also your reward; it’s what you want, and what Jesus wants for you. So live in a dependent state with your Savior, love with your Savior’s love to fill the gap, and live for a man on the cross that lived perfectly so He could die for your sanctification.

We Need Each Other

see relatedLove is..
This is the same as the note I posted on Facebook, I kind of just had a strange urge to go on a rant about this, actually I have another I will soon be posting but yeah, so here it is.
There are so many things on the Internet, in paintings, in books as to what love is. You get all sorts of different definitions, such as, “love is when guys put on cologne and girls put on perfume and go out and sniff each other.” I apologize to who had this as their msn name; I know it was just to be funny. But love is so much more than a definition could give you, so much more than a movie or book could give you, well… I take that back, any book not the Bible. ☺ Like a Caedmon’s call song, “Love is different than you think.” So I am going to try my best and go through exactly what love is. This does not just apply only to guy-girl situations I must also point out. This is the love we are supposed to love God with, and our neighbors as ourselves, as is found in Mark 12:30-31 “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength, and the second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no commandment greater than these.”
There are many things that love is, one is found in Colossians 3:14 “Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.” It’s the perfect bond, it keeps things together, therefore, anything that breaks someone or people apart isn’t love. Love is meant to last, that’s why it is the perfect bond. It’s strong, and it’s real.
The second thing is that love heals it fixes things. Coming out of 1 Peter 4:8 “Above all keep fervent in your love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sin.” It heals the wounds that sin creates. It fixes the chaos our sinful nature creates.
The third thing is that love doesn’t include fear. This comes out of 1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.” OK, this is a tough one, and so I’ll try to explain it the best I can. When you love, you’re not thinking about yourself so how can you be afraid of anything happening to you. My sister brought up a good question yesterday and asked if love can be afraid for the person it’s for. I think mostly that’s where we trust the Lord, but in any case, I think that would be considered being anxious for the other person, or maybe worried for their welfare. That’s perfectly fine, the problem that comes up is when we start loving conditionally. We say we love them but we hold back for fear of rejection. That is not love, and never will be. Love doesn’t hold back it’s all out. That’s what makes it so amazing. And we’ll get into that quickly.
The fourth body paragraph will be a list of things, and quick explanations. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in righteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all thing. Love never fails;” Love is patient, it can wait for people, it will always choose people over time. Love is kind, now this one most people can understand, love will be nice, it will be caring it treats what its for as special. Love is not jealous, it’s a gift, it wont be jealous of another’s love because it is not thinking about itself, it’s focused on the person, on what God cares about. Love does not brag and is not arrogant, love will not be proud of what it is because humbleness is also a part of it. Pride can ruin even the best of gifts, it’s not thinking about what the person will think of them afterwards, only on doing it’s job. Love does not act unbecomingly, love wont be rude because it’s constantly thinking about other people, you can’t be rude while loving. Love does not seek it’s own, like I said before it’s looking after others with no regard to itself. Love is not provoked; you’re not going to strike back when you aren’t defending yourself. You can’t aggravate love. Love does not take into account a wrong suffered, you aren’t going to start counting everything someone owes you if you’re truly loving them. You don’t tally forgiveness’s, I know, I know, no 489 left. ☺ Love does not rejoice in unrighteousness, it’s only goal is on what’s good, not doing wrong to fulfill selfish desires. Love rejoices in truth, it sings when good is done, it’s excited when it finds truth even if it was wrong before. Love bears all things, like I said before it’s the perfect bond. Love believes all things, it won’t give up on what it’s for no matter how hopeless they seem. Love hopes all things, kind of funny I just used this word, love is optimistic on what it’s doing, because it’s not thinking of itself, it’s not afraid of being disappointed. Love endures all things, love never fails, love is the perfect bond, if it’s really truly true love than it won’t fail no matter what! It’s not going to stop because of anything it’s unstoppable!
The last aspect of love is that it’s not from us. Out of 1 John 4:10 “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” And verse 8c “God is love” Our Lord is what love is, look at who our God is and you’ll have a pretty good idea what love looks like. In our lives also though love is given and maintained by God. Romans 5:5 “for the love of God is poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Love is in us, and is grown by God as is found 1 Thessalonians 3:12 “and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all the people, just as we also do for you.” It’s a gift from God, maintained by God, and is the very essence of who God is.
This is what leads to my definition that has changed over the years, so if you have a problem with it please tell me, and I’ll decided whether or not I should revise it. Love is a gift, it’s not thinking about itself, and it can only accomplish good. It’s all from God. Love is a gift from God that is unbreakable and allows us to live without fear, or thought concerning ourselves that we get to give back to Him, or to anyone else. Basically love is something from God that allows us to live selflessly (without self) + allowing us to be kind and caring for others. Love is best put as a man on a cross, Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love towards us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.” I could go on and on about love, or give you the perfect definition, but if you really want to see love, look at Jesus, there you will see the most amazing thing that puts words to shame that try pitifully to describe something so amazing as love. Love is from God, by God, and is God.

Wonder of the World

Freedom Begins Here
see relatedLove and Pain
I guess I am going to say some pretty obvious things in this post. I guess I'm going through something I've already been through over and over again. I am weak, and I get hurt, I fail and fall, yet through it all I see God's hand. Caedmon's Call has a song I really like called "Lead of Love" Romans 8:38 says "We overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us," after first listing all these things that could go wrong. I guess I am coming back to the cross and seeing how His love conquers all the pitiful problems I have. It is a very simple thought but one that is in pretty much everywhere else so it becomes much, much more complicated. I mean seriously, if we know that God's love conquer through us, that means that when we are a channel we a basically unstoppable! Not to say that we wont fall, nor that we will never experience pain. Of course we'll feel pain you might be saying, yes like James 1:2-4 talks about, that trials and pain will change us, it will make us more like our Savior. It says that it tests our faith to produce endurance, and in turn will make us more like Jesus, "perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." I have also been thinking about faith lately and how what we call faith is rarely truly faith. How many times do I feel like I am in a give and take relationship with Jesus. I am supposed to live right so the Lord will bless me and we'll have a great walk together. I limit God's goodness to my ability to give up. Like it all hinges on what I do. It's all in proportion to my 'letting go,' not His 'lifting me' to heights I'll never know. I put all my so called faith in my ability to work through the Lord. NOT in His ability to work through me. In His ability to use an unwieldy tool as myself. You simply can't create faith, you're taught faith. Lack of fire on your relationship with the Lord is not always a good thing. Sometimes the fire is the hottest when your the closest to getting refined. We talk so much about 'giving ourselves' to God but we forget we are not out ours to give. Romans 6:18 "and having been freed from sin you became slaves of righteousness." We are already His. We in essence steal ourselves from God and then try to give ourselves back! Like it's something we do, if we submit to God, we are simply giving in to His love. We do not have the means to essentially GIVE ourselves to God, we don't have the means to LIVE for God, we can't LOVE for God. We can merely be TAKEN away by His love, merely be GIVEN life by Him, merely be LOVED by Him until we can't help being grateful. We can merely be wrapped up in His arms of grace and weakly smile in return to His blessings that fill every part of our lives. It's not about how we can change the world for Him, it's about Him changing the world including us. We have no claim to fame, but the fact that the Creator of the universe died for me is enough for me. and I think it'll have to do because I can't do anything on my own.... I can't give in to who my Savior is, but I might just be carried away by His love through who cares what pain.
in Christ,
Eric

Prayer for a friend
Hey guy's been a long time since I've written on this, well I guess not too long, but it's kind of important. I don't have a spiel this time only a few prayer requests. I guess if we're prayer warriors I want an army on my side lol. Most of the requests involve my school life. I want to ask prayer for my 'Dwight Eisenhower report I am presenting Wednesday, and then also my journal blog I am reading to the class. The Dwight Eisenhower presentation will be the weaker one since I am talking about someone else. He did do a lot for Christianity so pray that I'll be strong and not whimp out at the end and water down the message there which isn't as much as I could hope for. My main prayer request is in my english class where I am basically giving my testimony. The teacher told us to write a story about the movie of our past life, or what our future is planned to be, or could be. I am basically as I said before giving my testimony, the class really needs it so I hope it goes well. There are also some pretty strong-willed debaters who might try to argue with me about something I say. So prayer for wisdom, and a quick smart, but soft responses would be appreciated. Another request involves my friend Andy. I don't think he's a Christian and I don't think he knows what he believes. I really want him to come to our yg's guy's night or youth group again, but most of all I want him to meet Jesus! Lastly I'd like prayer for myself that I would stay strong in Christ, and live out His love like He did all the way to calvary. I know that's a lot to ask but it's what I'm trying to do, and I figure God will help me achieve my goal to some extent because He's just that cool!
in Christ,
Eric

Reflection of Something
By Todd Agnew
My Jesus
see relatedthe heart of the matter is a man on a cross...
This is really part of an email to a friend that I felt others could benefit by, so that's why if it doesn't make sense at parts
So now it's time to talk about my favorite subject, want to guess what it is?! OH YOU GOT IT! JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK THAT'S ENOUGH, WAIT?! NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So Yeah, that's how I feel about right now. Although what I am looking at in the Bible is sometimes harder to understand and just a little bit frustrating, but that's ok because the good WAY outweighs the bad! So our guy's night study has been looking at "love" lately. lol, but anyway that's been so amazing, I am just learning to live in sight of the cross, it means so much more to me now that I've looked at love, now that I've been studying what He has for one so undeserving as me! It's flat-out amazing!!!!!!! Now I am looking at Luke 9:23, and Matthew 16:24. What does it meant o take up my cross daily and follow Him?! This question was asked to me by one of Naomi's (and my) friend up at Emmaus, Victor. So I've been thinking about it, and it's crazy. I know what I need to do because I've been studying love, but I don't know if I can do it. I know it's possible, considering Romans 5:5 "and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit which He has GIVEN us!" [caps locks mine!:)] but how can a man with a sin nature follow after Christ with his own cross? I can't! I'll just cling to His and go along for a ride, and ride of a deeper love than I can fathom! :D So that's where I kind of am at there, but I am also thinking about something else (as if that isn't enough) in Matthew 18:3. How can I humble myself like a child AND carry the cross after Jesus? If I am following Jesus the coolest person ever how can I be as humble as a child? Basically How can I do the right thing and possibly NOT feel good about it? Actually the answer is quite simple. If I am following Jesus then my eyes are on Him, so how can I be arrogant. When I'm merely a dim reflection of his beautiful love. That's what I've been learning and it's so exciting, yet it feels as if nothing in my life has been really changing, that's what puzzles me most. It seems as I am finally getting to where I should be, at the foot at the cross. Yet I am still powerless, and I need to wait for HIS love to overcome me, to bring me to my knees where I can be molded to be just a little more like My amazing, wonderful, beautiful Savior. Oh and by the way, you are precious in His sight, He loves you more than you can fathom. and that makes you more special than anything else in your life! Actually anything else you could do couldn't be compared with that beautiful truth. You are golden.
My only Boast is in Jesus Christ,
My only strength is in His life,
My only love comes from Him,
My only help is from the Lord,
My only worth was established by a man on a cross,
In Christ,
Eric
